Zero Landfill
In 2022, Cobargo Folk Festival took a bold step toward sustainability by eliminating all red-lid landfill bins and launching our dedicated Zero Landfill initiative. With the help of our volunteer “Zero Waste Warriors,” festival-goers are guided in sorting waste correctly, ensuring recyclables and compostables go to the right places and that as little as possible ends up in landfill.
Our passionate team is here to make sustainable choices easy and accessible, and each year we’re refining our processes to reach our ultimate goal: a zero-landfill festival. Through these efforts, we’re committed to protecting the environment and fostering a culture of sustainability in the festival community.
We are honoured to have won the 2023 Tidy Towns Sustainability Award for our Zero Landfill Project.
Winning the 2023 Tidy Towns Sustainability Awards (Cobargo Folk Festival Zero Landfill Project) would not have been possible without the dedication and enormous efforts of Hugh Pitty, our Zero Landfill Team volunteers, the 1st Cobargo Scout Group and all who attended our 2023 Festival and took the time to sort their waste carefully.
What You Need to Do
At Bin Stations
- Follow guidance from our Zero Waste Warriors
- Check color-coded signs for proper sorting
- Help our Scout Group volunteers by sorting carefully
Your Responsibilities
- Take home single-use plastics and composite materials
- Use hot wash stations (near toilets) to clean items before taking them home
- Use the hazardous waste bin in main toilet block for nappies and soiled materials
