Applications for the 2024 Cobargo Folk Festival are CLOSED.
The Cobargo Folk Festival is a folk and roots music, arts and cultural event held annually on the first weekend in March at the Cobargo Showground. That’s March 1st-3rd, 2024. The festival is presented and produced by the Yuin Folk Club, a not-for-profit community organisation established and run by local Cobargo people since 1996. More than 300 volunteers co-create the Festival.
Our festival is not a commercial event and we are not commercial promoters. Any profits from the Festival are used to fund future festivals, to grow music and art in our area, and to assist local community projects.
The Festival attracts thousands of visitors to the historic village of Cobargo in the Bega Valley, on the Far South Coast of New South Wales. This is Yuin Country, one of the most beautiful regions of Australia, just 15 minutes from some of the best beaches and National Parks in the world.
At our festival, “Folk Music” covers a broad spectrum of music styles, traditional and contemporary.
We believe that music, dance, art and culture is for everyone. We respect folk music traditions of all cultures and we create opportunities for music and folk arts to be handed on through generations.
We program artists from all stages of the musical and artistic journey – beginners, players who are not full-time musicians, emerging artists, mid-career professionals and well-established national and international acts.
We are passionate about community music-making, and our festival aims to offer everyone the chance to learn new skills, particularly musical and performance skills.
Learning and participation is important to us and we value acts that are happy to offer interesting workshops and players who are keen to get involved in the many impromptu sessions that happen around the site and on our Yuin Folk Club stage.
It’s not uncommon for us to get over 300 applications out of which we can only take about one sixth.
Within our limited budget we work hard to get a balance of styles that will be attractive to our discerning audience.
Applications closed on Saturday July 15th. Thanks to all who have applied.
